Bar Tricks How To Tell If Your Buddy Is Drunk

Hi, ever been out drinking and wondered if you have drank to much to drive or if your just buzzed first of all let me tell you to you should ere on the side of caution and get a buddy or something to drive you home. What i am going to tell you is a method of D.U.I detection called horizontal gaze nystagmus test that most law enforcement agencies use, keep in mind though that its not fool proof and that there are other methods used as well but in it is considered 65-80% reliable. First though let me tell you what will probably happen if you get pulled over for D.U.I. You will be given a field sobriety test that usually consists of the one leg stand where you will be told to stand on one leg and keep your hands to your side and count to ten(what an officer is looking for is can you keep your balance and keep your hands on your side while counting) if you lose your balance or bring your hands up to catch your balance or screw up counting that will cost you points which is added up and if you have a certain amountof points your arrested. The second test you will probably be given is the walk and turn where you are instructed to walk down a straight line with arms to your side and instructed to start with a certain foot right or left andwalk down this line heel to toe while counting your steps on the tenth step you will be instructed to pivot around and walk back, so if you start with your right foot you will pivot on your right foot. Again if you lose your balance or bring your hands up to catch your balance or screw up counting or pivot on the wrong foot, you guessed it points which = jail. The third test is called the horizontal gaze nystagmus test where an officer holds a pencil or finger in front of your eyes and moves the object from right to left up and down almost outside your field of vision. If your drunk your eyes will rhythmically twitch, you can be arrested if you pass the other tests but fail just this one. I have seen a football player drink a half liter of Jim Beam pass the other test and got arrested for failing the horizontal gaze nystagmus test.

Officers go through about a week of training to get trained on how to do this so dont consider yourself certified to tell your buddies their drunk, and I am telling you this for informational purposes only !!! or as a way to stir up a conversation at a bar or to entertain your drunk buddies.

This is how you do it

First hold an object about 2 foot away from the person face at head level, and tell them to not move their head, just follow the object with their eyes.

2nd move the object to the right just almost outside of the persons field of vision watch their eyes and when it looks like their eyes cant go any further without turning their head, hold the object still for about 5 seconds and you should if they are drunk see their eyes twitching rhythmically

3rd repeat going the other directions and observe
